This article is largely composed of excerpts from a much longer paper I’ve been working on of late. I cannot speak for the character of either of the two generals in question, but it is clear to me that they have not received a fair trial. Indeed, the charges against them reveal a political agenda to which all fair-minded people should object.

As a child, I used to complain “it’s not fair” and my father would quip “life’s not fair”. It certainly isn’t, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t speak out against injustice. We cannot afford to abandon notions of goodness, fairness, and justice because it’s too difficult or because we’re unlikely to succeed. We must not give up!
